Current Happenings

I've been debating on what to do with this site. So far, I've just dumped some pics on it that are cool... But as of this very moment (I will change my mind I'm sure) I think I'll use this as a place to put current happenings, so friends/family don't have to feel out of the loop if I forget to tell you something.

Next question then is, where do I start? I think I'll divide up info into categories: Home, Work, Dance, Professional, Social, Spiritual, and we'll see what else comes up.

Home:
In July, I rid myself of polybutlyn pipes and replaced every single plumbing pipe in my house. This involved cutting open walls and ceilings, and of course the pocket book (or should I say plastic?) This was not exactly an "elective" surgery to the house, as I literally had plumbing explosion after plumbing explosion. The day I had the ceiling repaired from the previous huge leak, it would bust again an inch away, ruining the newly drywalled and painted ceiling, and eventually, it ruined my beautiful dance floor. If I didn't replace it, my whole house was going to flood. While everyone else was having issues with flooding from the outside, I was having issues with flooding from the inside. I no longer need to worry about that! Just how to pay for it now! :)

The last few weekends, I spent priming and painting my bedroom. It is now a soft sage green, with white ceiling, white round the room shelves and brackets, and white trim. I had to re-paint it, as I had a roommate fall through the ceiling into my bedroom, thus ruining the ceiling paint job, and I had construction workers who were working on the bathroom who ruined the dragging technique on my previous paint job, and wrote all over the wall along with plaster and holes... Basically, ruined a gorgeous paint job I had done previously.

The home still needs a lot of work, but when thinking about it, so much of it is new... and all since I moved in!!! No wonder I'm broke!!! I have literally replaced just about everything inside that place, from ALL the appliances, 2 toilets, 1 tub, ac/heating unit, plumbing pipes, 2 walls, the equivalent of 4 different ceilings, I've put in the floor myself (laminate downstairs, and carpeting upstairs, and a combo on the stairs). I'm probably forgetting some things too... And what is left? Oh, I had better not start that here, because it will never end. :)

Work
I started a new job in Jan 06 at APS Healthcare. I took a significant pay cut to do so, in addition to adding almost an hour to my commute, at least an extra 150 dollars a month for parking/metro, and worse benefits than my previous job. But, I'm glad I did it. When I'm commuting, sometimes I forget that I'm glad I did it. But overall, yes. The paycut and less time and worse schedule are worth being able to hold onto my integrity, and not constantly fear for my life/job/safety like I did at my previous place of employment. Sure, I'm now working for a place that I used to think was an enemy. I have since changed my mind about managed care though. :) There are actually good reasons why it exists, despite what most of my therapist colleagues think! And, when I get frustrated with my current job, I only have to THINK about the previous place, and I instantly think, "whew, I'm still better off!"

So, evenings and weekends I see private practice clients. It keeps me busier than I would like, and people ask me if I want to grow my private practice, and part of me would LOVE to, if I didn't have to work a day job. But the main part of me thinks I do too much already, have no time to do basic chores and grocery shopping, let alone play, so there is no way I want to build it even more. Besides, there aren't many reasonable time slots available left anyway!

Plus, I just realized I haven't updated my private practice website in several years, and the info is outdated. But, here it is until I get it updated: www.wendyboyer.com

Dance
This is of course something that defines me in some way. I love movement and music. I love most forms of dance (having tried practically most of them, though not all.... YET). I've already posted a dance biography, so I won't elaborate much more on that.

My current favorite is Argentine tango. I am actually teaching my first tango class tonight at Eastern Market. I'm a little anxious about how it will go, as personally, I love to DANCE, not to teach it or watch it... just to DO it. :) and, I am a self admitted dance snob.

One of the many wonderful things that dance has given me, is a great social group. I have swing friends, salsa friends, ballroom friends, tango friends, etc. They are a wonderful addition to my life, which I wouldn't have if I didn't dance.

Professional
I guess this kinda fits with work, but when I thought of the topic, I thought about my extra curricular activities around my profession. Like the Trauma Training I am in, and looking forward to being able to do more with. I've listed the website on the links column. But basically, it's an expensive, 3 yr, time committed program where I'm learning stuff I really like, and have actually used in my private practice!

Social
Ok, this is the sad part. For right now. I am broken hearted. Recently broke up with the best boyfriend I ever had, and we had actually planned on being married. I miss him greatly, and don't think I'll write much about it right now. So, despite the broken heart, I'm trying to get out there and be social, force myself to do activities I wouldn't normally do. For instance, I went to a Things to do in DC activity a few weeks ago, where it was a French dinner. Met some great people, and was surprised at how fun it was! I will definitely do more activities that interest me through that group. And be open to anything else that presents itself...

Spiritual
Now that I'm here on this topic, not sure what I want to write. The basics are the same: I am still an active member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints. I'm still a "dead end" date. I still love to read things from the Dahli Lama, and any other great spiritual leader. I currently am teaching the 3-5 yr olds in church, which is a nice relief from the bigger responsibility I had before, and got burned out on (president of the womens group). I value the gospel points of my religion, though I definitely make fun of and hate many parts of the culture of it. I've been told I'm the most conservative person someone knows, with a wild streak a mile wide. I laughed, and thought it was worth remembering. :)

The END
Not really, but the end of this post... FINALLY! :)

Danza di Margherite by M Luffarelli

Danza di Calle by M Luffarelli

Yeah!!! I finally figured out how to post multiple pictures. I had tried multiple times, and it never worked. but this time, it did. :) These 4 pictures I discovered while searching for my bedroom art, but the red totally matches my living room, as I have dark red walls. Currently I have dance pictures, but I could switch them out to these for variety when I need a change up. :) And size on them is 10 x 27.5

Can find these on www.art.com

Bedroom Artwork?

I just re-painted my bedroom, and was looking for artwork to put up. This picture I'm debating about for directly facing my bed (meaning, it's what I would see predominantly while lying in bed...) It's by Mary Mercer, and ranges in size from 9 x 11, 20 x 26, and 27 x 33.

One Thing I do a lot of, is argentine Tango. I had to create a bio for a class I'm teaching, and 2 different friends composed the following 2 bios.

Jake and Tuan jointly composed this one:

Wendy Boyer's background in dance, sports, music, and chit-chat, has kept her one of the most sought-after partners for Lindy Hop, Salsa, West Coast Swing, Hustle, and Ballroom. In addition to appearing in embarrassing photos used in various dance magazines, Wendy has also performed Swing and Salsa Rueda in several films. People from those dance communities, however, miss her terribly, and accuse her of crossing over to the dark side ever since Argentine Tango became her absolute favorite of them all, to the virtual exclusion of everything else.

Dancing, movement, and music are in Wendy's blood. She loves to wiggle, improvise, and move with a sense of fun, and with her signature butt-kicking move (developed into a long-term, score-keeping sport with certain partners), she brings a much-needed dose of humor to the dance-floor.

She also, of course, has modes besides clownery, and is known to many DC dancers as a passionate, connected partner with stylish footwork and a sure touch. Wendy's work with Jake Spatz at Eastern Market will mark her teaching debut in the tango community, but she brings with her extensive experience as an instructor in other dances, so we're all expecting it to be a good idea.

A ballroom dancer friend Andrew took the above and wrote the following:

Wendy Boyer is a woman of many passions but two are most obvious to the casual observer. One is motion, as evidenced by her athletic prowess. (marathon running, badminton, biking, croquet, kayaking, hop scotch, hiking, poi balls etc.) The second is music. (violin, voice,
harp, piano, kazoo, ukulele and recorder) add to that an eclectic taste for the varied delights of human social behavior and inevitably you have a dancer.

An excellent Ballroom dancer, Wendy mastered form and fluid grace. However this pursuit left her deep and abiding need for rhythmic wiggling unsatisfied. To satiate this need she explored the worlds of Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing, Salsa, Hustle and fond them good. However, eventually she moved on from these worthy pursuits (leaving longing many a salsero, lindy hopper and hustler) and found another passion: the Tango.

This perfect juxtaposition of fluid grace and free-form style is the ideal articulation of her passion for movement. A passion she willingly shares with her fortunate students. Gentleman lucky enoughto share a dance with her are offer this caution: Wendy's feet are hypnotic and can be hard to track. They have the amusing (to her, at least) tendency of turning up in unexpected places.

Confusion

Now that I've created a blog, I have no idea what to do with it! Do I use it as a personal journal? Do I use it as a way to collect info on something I'm interested in? Do I use it as a place to post major events and have friends/family refer to this, rather than being in the dark about my life? But then again, who really cares? I have to figure out who my audience is before I shape what to do with this thing... I'm definitely confused.

First Attempt at a Blogg Spot

Of course this is going to change, once I figure out how to use this, and what it all looks like, but here goes my first attempt at blogging! :)
