Getting your eye poked out DOES hurt!

For some reason, the stars were aligned in such a way, that yesterday kept getting worse by the hour. All 24 hrs of it in fact... so by midnight, I was still in the ER.

but, let me backtrack. Kaleb had yet another river running down his nose all weekend, constant snot, always being inadvertently wiped on my pants or shirt or hair or wherever he rubbed his face. :) Poor little guy obviously didn't feel well, but tried to keep up his good spirits regardless. (until yesterday of course). Unfortunately, yesterday I must have caught what he had plus some. I was full of snot, the same river running down my face all morning long, with a million sneezes joining the party. I sneezed so much and so hard, my throat became extremely sore to the touch inside and out from the extreme exercise it was getting. I also went through all my boxes of tissue and had to resort to rolls of toilet paper. It wasn't pretty! But, as anyone knows, colds always seem to be more miserable than just a runny nose. The muscles ache, the head pounds, everything feels awful, the nausea. Blah blah blah. we all know colds suck. And mine continued to get worse throughout the day. Boring stuff...

I picked up Kaleb from daycare after working my usual shift, plus an extra few hours of overtime. Daycare was thrilled to get rid of him for once, as he had been throwing temper tantrums left and right, hadn't slept or taken a nap, and was just miserable. He has an amazing temper, but add it not sleeping or feeling well, and you see LOTs of that temper! He was crying and fussing and squirming, poor little guy.

We didn't get our regular walk after work, as I was too congested and miserable to walk, and would have needed the extra hand for my toilet paper roll to be on hand. :) So, we sat on the porch, enjoying the lovely weather, as it usually calms Kaleb down. Me and my toilet paper, Kaleb and his favorite bright pink straw, sittin' on the porch... ah... one of the best moments of the day now that I look back. :) Except when he took a dive and almost hit the asphalt on his face and rolled... but thankfully I was quick enough to prevent that horrible nightmare. :)

Anyway, since Kaleb hadn't napped, was sick, and it was close enough to bedtime, I figured I wouldn't wait for Larry and would just feed Kaleb and get him to bed myself, so he'd be sleeping by 6:30 when Larry got home. (that was my first mistake I believe!). I fed the boy, with his temper in full bloom, then went to change his diaper and get his pajamas on. Still lots of temper showing through. As I picked him up to carry him to his room for our ritual of bedtime story and singing... somehow in his angry flailing was somewhat fatal. He broke his thumbnail in my eyeball. Literally!

I was in pain, couldn't see out of my eye, tears streaming down while it was swelling closed, and I was holding Kaleb for dear life, tried to get a glimpse in the bathroom mirror, and was able to see white stuff in my eyelashes (his thumbnail come to find out) that I tried to get loose and bruises above my eye as well that must have been his fist or something. Anyhoo... I have been a one eyed woman since. Even now I am typing with one eye closed and one eye open. AM I talented or what?!?!?

So, With my mouth hanging open as I couldn't breath through my nose, a river running down my face from at least 2 orifices (eye and nose, and who knows, possibly my mouth!) I pretended to read Kaleb a story, who by this point looked subdued, probably aware that he had hurt me at some level. I sang as best I could under the circumstances, while he squirmed, all with an eye closed. Again, I must point out my talent! :) Ok, so blind people really are talented!!!!! I'm just a wannabe. Finally laid him down and sat on the stairs holding my eye closed, liquid streaming and me realizing it was more than just a little poke in the eye.

Larry came home, called our fantastic neighbor Stephanie who came running (without her diner or work projects even!) and stayed at our house until after midnight while Larry and I went on a search for a doc/urgent care, and ended up waiting for 4 or 5 hours at the ER waiting to be seen, me with tears streaming down my face, anxiously waiting for the 5 minutes it would take the doc to give me numbing drops and bring relief. Those ER's are such a nightmare. I needed 5 minutes or less of a doctors time to bring relief. But, I was lowest priority of course, so the wait was torturous. Being miserable from a cold only added to the pain, so my patience was wearing thin, and my pain tolerance was thinning by the minute. I had a migraine start setting in, probably from the congestion and bright lights and everything all factored in.

So, as I began this whole little saga, I was feeling worse and worse by the minute, by the hour. I had no idea when I woke up yesterday morning, that I would end the day feeling so absolutely miserable. Thank goodness for nights, and showers. After getting home around 1am I think, Larry went to a pharmacy to fill my prescriptions, as I had torn my cornea significantly, and we have to prevent infection, as well as deal with the pain. The pain stuff sucks, I wish I could have those numbing drops instead! :) Those wore off in 1/2 hour, and the second they wore off, my face was a blur of stinging tears again...

But anyhoo... I'm grateful that Kaleb slept when I put him down. I'm grateful our neighbor was so selfless and giving and able to stay at our house while I was at the ER all night. I'm grateful Larry was with me for the ordeal, as there is something about someone sitting next to you, or holding your hand that is comforting. I'm grateful for ice and the slight relief it can offer. I'll be grateful for sight when I can open my eye and use it fully again. I am able to open my eye, but it's mostly swollen shut and painful to use. I took an embarrassing picture after having it be iced all night and morning.. where I could open it without instant tears...

Exhausted?!

Yesterday was one of those days where everything I did or touched just seemed to go wrong. From 40 minute waits in the grocery store line, to parking lot fiasco's, to bad haircuts, to getting something I ordered for Larry's b-day and it not turning out as expected (causing a lot more work to make IT work), to Kaleb.

Kaleb is so routine oriented, and we threw him off his sleeping routine, in order to celebrate Larry's b-day on Sunday. SO, he didn't get his regular sleep or routine, and was quite fussy yesterday. Temper tantrums all day long. No naps all day long (he's gotten where he will at least take 2 separate 1 hr naps during the day, except on Sundays when church gets in the way). SO, my little cutie was exhausted, ornery, full of temper, and clingy. I had to hold him through the grocery store while he screamed. Anyhoo... we went for our nightly walk before dinner and bed, and he was awake, looking around, enjoying the walk. I think it was the very last little stretch, about 1 block from home, where he just sacked out...
