Sick Day

Tues night I started feeling sick, sore throat, hurt to talk. By wed, it had gotten worse, not better, and today even bad enough that work sent me home, knowing they desparately needed me, but my voice wasn't going to make it.

So, I left work around 12:30 today. I should have stayed home, sick. But at least now I'm home sick. I'm not exactly FEELING terrible, other than my throat hurts, and it really hurts to talk, and my voice is crap. But my head and body are pretty much ok. SO I figured that I would just take care of things today that didn't require talking, and just keep at it, not acting sick and all (ha ha ha).

I am now paying for it in several ways.

I decided to go get an oilchange. Got slammed with 110 bucks (as the power steering had to be pumped or something?) Anyway, I get home, planning to actually make some hot tea, curl up and do computer stuff, or something. NOthing of course that would require using my non-existant voice.

Anyhoo... I get home to discover I'm locked out of the house. So I am crawling around front and back, looking for my hidden keys. They are all gone. I'm searching everywhere, praying. Roommate is on semester break in CA. So, what are my options? Break in? Meanwhile, I'm beginning to cough and feel miserable as the cold air was just too much for the throat. Well, I had hired a handyman to do a few odd jobs a while back, and I knew he had a key, even though he was about an hour away, IF he was at home and not on a job. So, I called him. Asked if he could come rescue me. And he did. Meanwhile, I'm sitting in my cold car, waiting. Here comes story number 2.

As I sit in my car, staring at tango and jezi who are wondering why I'm not coming inside, and refusing to open the door for me... well, these group of 5 scary looking kids come by, surround my car and start hitting it. One guy pulls out a blunt and lights up. And I'm not even in southest DC!!!!!! When they saw me move, it kinda scared them, as they must have thought it was an empty car, and they saw me, laughed and moved on. Thankfully....

SO, then, he comes, lets me in, I give him a few more handyman jobs to do (at a later date) to make his trip worth the effort. And I'm not finally safe and sound inside my warm little house...

How's that for my afternoon where I should have been curled up in bed? Now I'm coughing and hurting more (due to the cold probably) and lost the afternoon...

Not a coincidence?

Thurs night I was having a discussion with Larry, and the topic of my brain tumor came up. So, he gets worried, begging me to see a Dr to evaluate what the current status is with it. I of course don't want to. I'm fine, and there is no reason I have to go sit through a ton of tests for the same result: we don't know what to do.

Then, Fri night, My friend Stacey, who was around when the whole thing started 1.5 yrs ago, asks out of the blue how the brain tumor is doing. Kinda creepy. And she insists that I get it checked out. Of course I don't want to, but she states if I don't make the appointment, she will, and will drag me there. ANd she will! Larry is elated that someone else has the power to get me to a dr.

Then, Sun, Tim Gish comes up to me at church and out of the blue again, asks me about the brain tumor. This is totally crazy. I haven't brought this topic up in over a year at least. And 3 separate individuals, not talking to each other, all bring it up within 3 days of each other. It's incredible. So, I guess that means God is giving me an obvious sign that I need to do something.

So I guess tomorrow I'll be calling and making an appointment. Even though nothing is wrong with me. But 3 people in 3 days all bringing up the same thing can't be a coincidence... though I have to admit I wish it were...

Budhists and Deer Hunters

Yesterday I went to a beautifuly Budhist temple and gardens with a few friends from a meditation class. The place had something like 86 acres of woods and gardens, with stupas and prayer thingies around to help meditate.

While we are walking around, in January, with the sun shining, and gorgeous weather (not even needing coats!) we were saying it was the perfect day to do something like this. ANd it was, with one exception. We are hiking around, and are hearing gun shots. We realize that there are a lot of deer hunters around, but they are not allowed on this particular property. So, while trying to find zen while hearing gun shots, we enjoy ourselves.

Then, we get to the red garden. and There was an orange hat/vest, with a rifle pointed our direction. SCARY!!!!! So there was a deer hunter right there on the budhist property, illegally, most likely tracking a deer, but we were scared we would get shot. So we are yelling that we are people and don't want to get shot, and that it's illegal for them to be there, blah blah blah. Then, we were tattle tales and went to tell the nuns at the temple that they have hunters on their property. We hope that they called the cops and got this guy. We hope that guy never killed anyone, or any deer for that matter!!!!

Happy new year!

Wow, it's hard to believe it's already 2007. I hate getting older!

So I've joined in the ranks with most people, in the hopes that I'll improve my health/exercise/nutrition this year. They say that most people fall off the wagon about 3-4 months in. I'm wondering if that is about the time when I'll actually get ON the wagon. :) I'm definitely good about what I eat and about trying to exercise, my problem is doing consistent exercise on a daily basis.

I'm trying to think of some stories that have happened to me over the last few weeks, but can't come up with anything. Not that they haven't happened, but this old age thing does affect my short term memory!

All I can remember, is sat night I got all dressed up and sexy, excited to go tango dancing for the last time for the year. Drove all the way there to find the dance floor empty and closed. I tried to call several friends to see if they knew were dancing was, and no one seemed to know. What a disappointment. But, looking forward to Wed when I can shake it for the first time this year! :)
